WSU’s grizzly bears lose weight on Thanksgiving?

Lynne-NelsonPULLMAN, Wash. – If you think Thanksgiving dinner can pack on the pounds, consider the grizzly bears at Washington State University that eat the equivalent of three such feasts daily during the weeks leading to hibernation. After nearly doubling their weight, they take a winter-long nap – only to wake up trim and perfectly healthy in early spring.

Learn to stay healthy this holiday season

PULLMAN – Learn how to eat healthy and reduce stress during the holiday season at an informative and interactive wellbeing workshop.

University Recreation is offering two workshops to allow participants to learn the perfect combination of exercise, nutrition, and stress management to turn this holiday season into the best it can be.  The workshop will be offered twice, with the first being held on Dec. 4 from 12:10 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in CUE 512 and the second being held on Dec.5 from 5:10 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Lighty 405. Registration ends Dec. 4.  Participants will receive a free healthy holiday cookbook.

Group urges nation to “get real” about disorders

The 18th annual National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, the nation’s largest eating disorder outreach effort, is set for Feb. 27 through March 5 on the Washington State University campus.The “Get Real” campaign is part of NEDA’s effort to provide the public with a look at the dangerous consequences of eating disorders. WSU Health and Wellness addresses eating disorders

WSU Health and Wellness Services will sponsor events from Feb. 23-27 as part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.An information table and clothing drive, “Don’t Fight your Genes, Just Change your Jeans!” will go on throughout the week in the Compton Union Building. Donations can be made from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and will go to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse. At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in the CUB guest speaker Roberto Olivardia, co-author of “The Adonis Complex: The Secret Crisis of Male Body Obsession,” will present research and share the impact eating disorders have on males. Weight management support group offered

Washington State University#s Health and Wellness Services# Wellness Programs will offer a weight management support group as part of the Body Image and Eating Disorders Prevention Program. The group will meet for eight weeks on Wednesdays beginning Oct. 16 from 5:15 to 7 p.m. in Administration Annex Room 303.Group discussions will cover topics to help participants build skills to develop healthy lifestyles and provide resources for continued weight management success.
