Archived Submissions

Each January, employees with accrued sick leave balances may exchange sick leave for cash. Employees whose year-end sick leave balance exceeds 480 hours may convert sick leave hours earned in the previous calendar year, minus those used during the year, to monetary compensation. No sick leave hours may be converted which would reduce the calendar year-end balance below 480 hours. Monetary compensation for converted hours is paid at the (more…)

Those interested in donating leave can contact Human Resource Services, (509) 335-4521, or send in a shared-leave donation form to zip 1014, French Ad 139.  WSU Business Policies & Procedures Manual Section 60.58 has information about Shared Leave and forms that can be copied for use.

Questions about the procedures to donate leave to any approved individual can be directed to Sally Wickizer (wickizer@wsu.edu) or Candy Hachmann (Candice.hachmann@wsu.edu) at Human Resource Services.

Avista Utilities, in conjunction with WSU, will be repairing electrical switchgear at the East Campus Substation off Grimes Way on Tuesday, January 12, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Outages are not anticipated.  Traffic disruptions around the East Campus substation are not anticipated.  For more information, please contact Elizabeth Frederickson, Avista Utilities, at 208-798-1484, or David Kimbrel, WSU Facilities Engineering, at 509-335-9309

The Pullman Student Financial Services office, including the Communications Center which answers customer phone calls and emails, will be closed Monday, January 18, for the Martin Luther King holiday. Faxes and emails sent to Student Financial Services will be accepted but will not be reviewed or processed until the following business day. The office will resume its normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19.

Students and families are encouraged to check the Student Financial Services website at financialaid.wsu.edu for timely announcements and key information which may assist them during the closure.

The 2016-2017 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) became available to complete on January 1, 2016.

  • The WSU priority deadline for submitting the 2016-17 FAFSA is February 15 – meeting this deadline puts you in the best position to receive the maximum financial aid you are eligible for.
  • You don’t have to have your taxes done before completing this application—you can initially use estimates to submit the FAFSA and then later, update those estimates with actual figures based on your taxes when done. To complete the FAFSA, click here.

As part of the 2016 MLK Program, Diversity Education and the CCGRS Critical Film Collective will show the award-winning 2014 film, SelmaSelma is the true story of a movement that takes place over a three-month period in 1965 during the Civil Rights Movement. The film highlights the dangerous struggle led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition.  The march from Selma to Montgomery resulted in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most important victories for the Civil Rights Movement. Joelle Kaufman, head of marketing and partnerships at Bloomreach, will speak to women leaders about building a career they love at a free social, luncheon and lecture at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Belltower, 107 S. Grand, Pullman. “Work and Balance like a Ninja – Constructing a Career You Love That Fits Your Life,” is hosted by the Washington State University Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and the Pullman Regional Hospital Women’s Resource Guild.

On January 4, site fencing starts going up around the Digital Classroom Building site at the corner of Nevada and Washington Streets (north of the Washington Building) to prepare for construction to begin. A single lane roadway will be established directly in front of Waller Hall to allow access to the Neil/Webster/Stimson Crimson 2 lot. This single lane roadway will have red and green lights for traffic control, similar to a highway project. This access to the Neil/Webster/Stimson lot will be accessible throughout construction (June 2017) with some limited access times that will be defined as the project progresses. WSU deliveries and waste management should coordinate the times for delivery to avoid congestion as much as possible. (more…)

A VM is typically a Global Campus senior or graduate who assists with minor non-content-related issues, freeing you up to teach. January 15, in CUB L46 from 3 – 4 p.m., celebrate National Popcorn Day by learning about the history of popcorn and trying a delicious variety of the snack.

The Graduate School and the Teaching Academy are hosting a TA Workshop for graduate students who are, or are planning to be, teaching assistants. WSU faculty members will be leading the sessions. The workshop will be held Saturday, January 16, in Todd 116 from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Lunch will also be provided following the workshop.

ATL Announces Assessment Mini-Grants for Spring 2016: Applications Due by March 1st

WSU faculty who are involved with the development, implementation, or use of undergraduate program student learning outcomes assessment are welcome to apply for ATL’s assessment mini-grants. Up to six mini-grants will be awarded for up to $500 each. (more…)

This workshop, taking place January 14, 1 – 3 p.m. provides an introduction to the basics of understanding stress, stressors and the stress response in people. You will learn about the stress continuum and the four areas in which stress exists in all of us.
You will be taught a simple breathing technique that the latest research demonstrates can be highly effective in managing the stress reactions in both our minds and our bodies. We will focus on ways you can begin to control how external & internal stressors affect you. We will talk about aspects of personality and behavior that can contribute to escalating our stress levels and how we may, with practice, learn to manage our unwanted and unhealthy responses to the stressors in our lives.

Performance review is a key component of employee development.  This requires a working knowledge of Position Descriptions and Performance Expectations.  Properly written and updated, these documents provide the foundation for effective performance management.  This course explains the criteria of well-written Position Descriptions and Performance Expectations, and demonstrates successful application of the performance review.

AMS offers classroom technology training to start the Spring semester. Don’t miss out on a training session to familiarize yourself with technology in General University Classrooms (GUC).
