PULLMAN, Wash. – More than $35,000 in cash prizes was awarded to high school teams from Washington and Idaho at the recent Alaska Airlines Imagine Tomorrow Competition.
Hosted by Washington State University’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture on May 19, Imagine Tomorrow is WSU’s annual problem-solving competition for students grades 9-12.
Now in its eleventh year, Imagine Tomorrow challenged students to seek new ways to support the transition to a sustainable future.
Nearly 400 students and 30 schools from Washington and Idaho participated in this year’s event, themed, “Pursue Sustainability. Nonstop.” Student teams selected from among three challenges:
- The Itron Food, Energy and Water Challenge
- The Boeing Aerospace & Transportation Challenge
- The McKinstry Built Environment Challenge
They researched the topic and developed innovative technologies, designs, or plans to mobilize behavior.
The competition was judged by more than 100 representatives from industry and academia.
More than prizes were awarded, with first prizes worth as much as $300 for each winning student team member.
