As Washington State University prepares to say goodbye to Heald Hall, the Pullman campus community has an opportunity to help preserve the building’s story from more than a half century of service.

Since opening in 1962, Heald Hall has been a cornerstone of science and discovery, serving generations of students, faculty, staff, and researchers. Named in honor of Dr. Frederick DeForest Heald, the first chair of WSU’s Plant Pathology program, the five-story building has housed teaching and research laboratories, offices, classrooms, and its well-known 350-seat lecture hall.

With demolition planned for the 2026-27 academic year to make way for the new Integrated Sciences Building, WSU is collecting memories, stories, and reflections from those who studied, worked, taught, conducted research, or simply spent time in Heald Hall.

Whether it’s a favorite class, a groundbreaking research project, a lifelong friendship, or a memorable campus moment, every story helps capture the building’s rich legacy.

Help ensure Heald Hall’s place in WSU history by sharing your memories online.
