  • Part 1: New Employee Orientation is recommended for all employees; this portion occurs from 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.  New Employee Orientation provides medical, dental, life and disability insurance information, as well as information on payroll, employment basics, resources and leave processes.
  • Part 2: New Employee Retirement Orientation: is highly encouraged for all retirement plan eligible employees (choose the session below) that corresponds with your employment type.
    • Faculty and Administrative Professional retirement information 1:30-2:30 p.m.
    • Civil Service and hourly retirement information 3-4 p.m.

We encourage all new employees to attend within their first 30 days of employment!

**NEO sessions are available statewide via AMS Videoconferencing**

There is still time to register for the Tour de Lentil taking place on August 23. The ride is held in conjunction with the National Lentil Festival and proceeds benefit the WSU Cycling Club. Participants have the option of doing a 50K or 100K ride. The course begins and ends at the Pullman City Playfields and is considered a ride, not a race. Registration is $45 and includes water and snacks at aid stations during the course and a BBQ after the ride. All participants will receive a free t-shirt and the ability to welcome our students back to campus on one of the most important days of their lives so far.  Anyone who helps for more than one shift on the same day will also receive free lunch!  Students will receive community service volunteer hours through the Center for Civic Engagement, as well as the ability to move-in a day early if living in the residence halls this fall.

Choose between 3 different shifts and be sure to bring all of your colleagues, family and friends to help as well.  Thank you for joining this fun and incredibly impactful event for new students.

The fuel pump station at the Grimes Way Steam Plant is having maintenance done August 4th and 5th.  Pumps 3 and 4 are out of service during that time.  Pump 1 is still in service for unleaded fuel users.  If you should have any questions please call the Motor Pool for more information 335-9085.  Thank you for your patience during this time.

The pedestrian pathway through Gate A of the North Stadium Concourse (between Mooberry Track and the Stadium) will be temporarily closed and rerouted north, utilizing sidewalks along Stadium Way and Colorado Street, through Flag Lane, for the period of Monday, August 4th through Thursday,  August 28th.  Please observe construction barriers and signage.  This pathway revision is necessary to accommodate the installation of the new Ribbon Board on the north side of the stadium.  Thank you for your patience and GO COUGS!

The All Campus Picnic is less than three weeks from now! This year’s event will take place on NE Fairway Road (outside of Beasley Coliseum) and the surrounding lawns. Registered student organizations, campus departments, community groups and businesses still have time to reserve their table for the community fair. Visit wow.wsu.edu/picnic for reservation information. The deadline for table reservations is August 13.

Monday, August 4, thru Friday, August 8th, Colorado St. will be closed to thru traffic in front of Smith Gym and the P.E. Building while crews install new curbs and paving as a result of recent utility work for the Northside Residence Hall phase 2 project. Access to the green 2 lot in front of Smith Gym will remain open, please follow traffic signage and personnel during this time.

Did you know that nearly 40% of our incoming freshman class will be first-generation college students? First-Generation students are those whose parent(s) or legal guardians do not have a bachelor’s degree. Without campus and academic engagement, only 34% of first-generation college students are expected to graduate. (more…)

Motor Pool has a new roll off tow truck, capable of carrying up to 2 state vehicles at one time. Charges to outside departments is a base fee of $50/hour, staff hourly rate of pay,  plus a mileage fee of $.25/mile after the first 100 miles. Please call Motor Pool if you have any questions or need help having your state vehicle towed. During office hours please call 335-9085, for emergencies or after hours calls please call dispatch at 335-9000.

The CUB Elevator and Stair Tower will be closed to the public from July 28 to  Aug. 19 due to elevator service and construction of a new elevator entry on second level of CUB tower connecting to the Football Operations Building.  The stairway east of the CUB Tower will remain open.   Pathway revision for ADA passage will be through Terrell Library to Terrell Mall.  Detour signs will be posted. CougLink is the new job listing tool replacing  JobX! On and off campus employers can post jobs for thousands of students to access instantly on CougLink. If you need to learn how to successfully register, post, and retrieve applicants for jobs- come to the Academic Success and Career Center, (formerly CACD) in Lighty 160 to learn how. There will be two information sessions available for any employer on-campus.

• Tuesday, August 12 at 10 a.m.

• Thursday, August 14 at 2 p.m.

To take classes for fall 2014 (including under the Tuition Fee Waiver benefit for qualified employees; please see WSU’s BPPM 60.70), faculty and staff need to be admitted to Washington State University. This includes degree and non-degree seeking status.

All fall 2014 applications for admission are available online at apply.wsu.edu until  August 1, at 5 p.m. Beginning Monday, Aug. 4, all fall 2014 applications will be available in paper form in the Office of Admission, room 370 in Lighty Student Services Building.

Undergraduate researchers – 59 from 37 universities including WSU – will share their summer work at the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium for 2014 TODAY, Aug. 1, in the Smith CUE.

Working with top WSU professors and their teams on a variety of research projects, the students have spent on average 10 weeks at our university. They have investigated topics ranging from cherry genetics to shock wave responses to climate models, and much more. (more…)

The first week of classes is a busy one for all students, and the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) want to help you send a little bit of homemade love to your favorite Cougar. With the help of Sisters Cookies in Moscow, Idaho, SAA members will hand-pack and hand-deliver one dozen delicious, homemade cookies to your student’s residence hall. (more…)

This training provides an overview regarding how the electronic forms system functions and specific instruction on completion of the electronic forms that participants expect to use. Current forms in the system include the Request for Shipment of Merchandise, the Sponsored Projects Activity Request (SPAR), and the Travel Expense Voucher. (more…)

Central Receiving is holding the following packages with no delivery information.

  1. A FedEx ground package from TYCOFDT with the tracking number 982376087430925. No packing slip could be found, but a label on the box described the contents as 2BY-GLSDR, DRS, PNL, PLT. A PO B01487965 is referenced on the shipping label.
  2. A FedEx ground package from Hewlett Packard with the tracking number 166454770216270. The product item is 702863-B21 and the product description is HP 2U SFF BB GEN8 RAIL KIT.

Please be advised that repairs to the Fine Arts parking garage will continue through Monday, August 11. Unfortunately, unforeseen issues have caused the need for additional repairs and mitigation.   During this construction project, the entire parking garage will be closed to parking.

During this closure, Orange 1 parking permits will be valid in the Smith Center parking garage, and additionally, they are valid in Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue zones. (more…)
