Showcase highlights research, scholarship

VANCOUVER – Students and faculty will present a showcase of their research, scholarship and artwork at the 5th Annual Research Showcase at WSU Vancouver. The event will be April 10 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Firstenburg Student Commons; it is free and open to the public.

WSU Vancouver is a nationally recognized research university with a dynamic and growing faculty conducting research and pursuing scholarship of regional, national and international impact, all of which will be on display. In addition, many WSU Vancouver faculty and students will be exhibiting the results of research projects and scholarly works focused on regional problems and issues.

More than 65 posters and exhibits of faculty and student research projects, digital artwork and scholarly publications will be on display throughout the day. The showcase will also feature several oral presentations, and an awards ceremony and reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Jerry Franklin, winner of the Heinz Award for the Environment and professor at the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington, will give the keynote address, “Research-Opportunity Rich: The Columbia Region in the 21st Century,” 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Administration Building, room 110. Franklin’s research in forest ecology has transformed forest management practices to better sustain America’s old growth forests.

“We look forward to sharing these projects with our colleagues and the community,” said Gretchen Rollwagen-Bollens, interim director of Research and Graduate Education. “The Showcase is our premier campus event to highlight the research and scholarship of our faculty and students.”
