Former WSU Regent dies July 25

Robert W. (Bob) Strausz, a member of the Washington State University Board of Regents from 1973-77, died in Bellingham, July 25.

Strausz was born in Yakima on Aug. 19, 1922. The Yakima High School graduate served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean war. He earned a bachelor’s degree from WSU in 1947.

Strausz was appointed a WSU regent in June 1973 by Gov. Dan Evans and served until October 1977. The Yakima Valley orchardist and his wife, Francine, moved to Friday Harbor in 1994.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family plans a private celebration of Strausz’s life at a later date. Memorials in his honor may be made to either the WSU Alumni Scholarship Fund through the WSU Foundation, P.O. Box 641925, Pullman, WA 99164-1925, or San Juan Community Theater, P.O. Box 1063, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
