Starting mid-June 2024, Microsoft Teams meeting recordings will save to the meeting organizer’s OneDrive account by default. This will change Microsoft’s current practice of saving Teams meeting recordings to the OneDrive account of the user who initiates the recording.
This change will only affect the storage location of meeting recordings. Meeting co-organizers and presenters assigned by the meeting organizer will continue to have the ability to start or stop a meeting recording.
If the meeting organizer’s OneDrive account does not have sufficient storage, or a recording fails to upload to OneDrive successfully, the recording will remain accessible from the meeting chat, or by opening the meeting in the Teams calendar and selecting the Recap tab.
This will allow meeting organizers to better manage access permissions and recording file management, and ensure recordings are governed similarly to other meeting components such as the calendar invite, transcript, and more.
This change is not expected to have significant impact on WSU Teams users and will be implemented automatically, with no end-user or administrative action required.
Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends updating any relevant support documentation regarding Microsoft Teams recording with this upcoming process change as needed.
