The Rugged Coug Race is a great opportunity to tackle an exciting fitness challenge! The on and off-road race will be held Saturday, April 21. Competitors will face a variety of obstacles along the three-mile course, wall climbs, tire flips and log carries have been featured in the past, and this year there will be a new, yet to be revealed, obstacle. UREC Coordinator of Competitive Sports DJ Mackie said that organizers try to mix up the course from the previous year. By having a secret obstacle, an element of surprise is added to the course, and ensures that racers will have to be ready for anything. In addition to making the race more exciting, the mystery of the course can make finishing even more fulfilling. Mackie also stressed that the course is not just for obstacle enthusiasts. Anyone can have fun on the course, and months of training aren’t needed to succeed. For elite obstacle course competitors the course could take as little as 35 minutes to complete but Mackie expects the average participant to take around an hour and 15 minutes. Racers will be let out in heats starting at 10:15 a.m. All participants will receive a commemorative bib and a T-shirt, while winners of each division will receive a rugged wood medal and free entry for next year’s competition.
