The internationally acclaimed sā Ladakh Biennale 2026 was recently featured in the Financial Times, including quotes from Professor Avantika Bawa, WSU Vancouver. The Biennial highlights the power of contemporary art to foster cultural exchange, community engagement, and dialogue across geographic and social boundaries.
Taking place across the lived landscapes of Ladakh at elevations above 3,000 meters, the curated Biennale brings together artists from Ladakh, across India, and from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Zambia, Australia, and the United States. Each artist is paired with a local community and destination, creating opportunities for meaningful place-based collaboration. Professor Bawa is the sole U.S.-based artist participating in this edition.
Bawa’s large-scale, site-responsive installations explore the relationship between architecture, landscape, and human experience. Her project in Ladakh extends her commitment to working within distinct environments and engaging directly with local communities. Responding to the region’s terrain, culture, and environmental conditions, her work will examine how art can deepen connections to place while encouraging reflection, dialogue, and shared understanding.
