Graduate School – Personnel update

After nearly five years of exemplary administrative service to Washington State University, Dr. William (Bill) Andrefsky, will step down as Dean of the Graduate School and return to his professorial position in Department of Anthropology.

Dr. Andrefsky’s research focuses on the ways humans use technology to adapt to environmental and social changes, and is an expert on the analysis of aboriginal stone technology. He has written or edited six books on this topic. His scholarship in this area earned him the Society for American Archaeology’s Excellence in Archaeological Analysis Award in 2008.  He is looking forward to returning to his faculty position and focusing his energies on research.

Dr. Andrefsky’s last day as Dean of Graduate School will be August 15, 2017.  Dr. Lisa Gloss, Associate Dean for the Graduate School, has accepted the position of Interim Dean effective August 1, 2017 and until a permanent Graduate School Dean is identified and hired.  Provost Bernardo is appreciative of Dr. Gloss’ dedication to the Graduate School and looks forward to working with her in the coming academic year.

On August 7 from 3:30 – 5 p.m., the Provost’s Office will host a celebratory reception for Dr. Andrefsky in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), Room 518.  The program will start at 4 p.m.  We hope you will join us to thank Dean Andrefsky for his significant contributions and wish him well as he embarks on the next chapter of his career!
