For the first time in nearly two decades, four student tickets declared their candidacy to be the Associated Students of Washington State University (ASWSU) president and ASWSU vice president for the 2016-17 academic year.
Almost one-third of the Pullman undergraduate students voted in spring 2015. To exceed student government voter turnout national trends, the ASWSU election chair needs to increase voter participation to 50% of the undergraduate student body. ASWSU is hoping fellow Cougs will fulfill their civic duty and vote in the upcoming elections.
Presidential/vice presidential tickets:
- Zak Cherif/Sebatian Kalilikane
- Taylor Christenson/Kyle Strachila
- Kevin Lindquist/Nikki Newberg
- Victoria-Pearl Young/Sam Horowitz
The four student tickets will participate in a primary debate on February 21 at 1 p.m. in the CUB Senior Ballroom. Voting for the primary elections will then open at 7 p.m. online at elections.wsu.edu. Results will be released on February 23 at approximately 8 p.m.
Three candidates will move on to the second presidential/vice presidential debate on March 6 at 5 p.m. in the CUB Senior Ballroom. Voting for the general election will open immediately following the debate until March 10 at 7 p.m. In addition to voting for president and vice president, students will also cast their votes for student representatives within the ASWSU Senate.
The ASWSU Facebook and Twitter page will have the most up-to-date information regarding the elections.
ASWSU serves as a resource for students. Through leadership, advocacy, and Cougar pride—ASWSU promotes student initiatives that enhance an individual’s collegiate experience.
