Art exhibit and brunch highlight Women*s Center’s 50th anniversary celebration

The Washington State University Women*s Center invites the campus community to help celebrate its 50th anniversary. The celebration’s theme is “Shining Together: Celebrating 50 years for Collective Empowerment.”

The first event, titled Radiant Resistance, is an art exhibition and keynote speech by Sophia Wallace, on Friday, Feb. 28, 4–7 p.m., in the Jordan Schnitzer Art Museum on the Pullman campus. Wallace is a visionary artist who challenges societal taboos surrounding female sexuality, advocates for body sovereignty, and addresses the marginalization of female and queer bodies. This event is free, and registration is not required. For those unable to attend, the exhibit is currently available for viewing in CUE 302 through March 5.

On Saturday, March 1, the center will host a “Shine Together Brunch,” 10–11:30 a.m., at the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center. An RSVP is required to reserve your seat.

The brunch will feature a panel discussion featuring Amy Sharp, director of the Women*s Center, ASWSU President Tania Henriques, Eliza Pepito, chair of the Coalition for Women Students, Chloe Ko, Multicultural Green Counsel chair, and Mariam Sylla, vice president of the Black Union. Conversations will be inspired by the Shine Theory and the Women*s Center’s enduring legacy.

The community is also invited to access The Dilemma of Desire, a full-length film about female sexual desire and powerful gender politics. Access the film by logging into WSU Libraries.
