Whirling helicopter blades will briefly become part of the Pullman campus soundscape later this month as part of ongoing improvements to Gesa Field.

On July 18 and 19th, existing stadium lighting units on the roof as well as light posts surrounding the stadium will be removed and replaced via helicopter.

To ensure a safe working environment, Wilson Road south of the stadium will be closed for the duration of the project. Several buildings will also be closed to unauthorized staff during the work: Hollingbery Field House, the Cougar Football Complex and the Information Technology Building. The northeast corner of the Compton Union building as well as its east entrance will also be closed off.

WSU Athletics raised more than $10 million to make significant improvements to Gesa Field prior to the start of the 2026–27 season. A new state-of-the-art video board, as well as upgraded audio and lighting systems, will bolster the fan experience for those cheering on the Cougs for years to come.

A portion of Stadium Way is already being closed to traffic to ensure construction staff have space to make the necessary improvements to the stadium.

More information on the project is available on the MyFacilities website.
