BECU presents WSU’s 2020 Mom of the Year Awardee

Rebecca Kallman is Washington State University’s 2020 Mom of the Year Awardee, presented by BECU. Kallman was nominated by her daughter, Davi, and was selected out of more than 170 nominations received.

In years past, the award was presented during the WSU Pullman Mom’s Weekend activities, but the annual event was cancelled in accordance with guidance from state health officials to limit large gatherings in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. That led to the announcement being published on WSU Pullman social media on Saturday, April 4.

According to Davi, Rebecca has not only made an impact on her daughter’s life at WSU, but she’s also been a positive influence on her daughter’s friend’s lives. “In addition to serving as my mother, she has gone above and beyond the call of motherly duties to be a surrogate mother to my friends in Pullman. She sends letters and gifts to my friends who are not as supported as I am, and by doing this, she has truly changed how my friends see themselves and in turn, it has positively impacted their time at WSU.”

On the Mom’s Weekend website, WSU Pullman Student Affairs stated “We are also looking forward to Fall 2020 and how to further honor all our Coug family members. The weekend of October 10th is currently scheduled as Dad’s Weekend. We encourage all students who will be in Pullman to invite their moms and all family members, so we can celebrate our Coug Families together this year.”
