PULLMAN, Wash. – Approximately $100,000 in cash prizes was awarded to high school teams from Washington and Idaho at the Alaska Airlines’ Imagine Tomorrow competition.
Hosted by Washington State University’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, Imagine Tomorrow is WSU’s annual problem-solving competition for students in grades 9-12. In its ninth year, the contest challenged students to seek new ways to support the transition to alternate energy sources with a primary focus on energy sustainability.
More than a dozen categories were awarded, with first prizes worth as much as $1,500 per school and $300 for each team member.

Most innovative: Vancouver iTech Preparatory, Vancouver, Wash.
Most inspirational: Walla Walla High School, Walla Walla, Wash.
Northwest Advanced Renewable Alliance (NARA) biofuels challenge: Tesla STEM High School, Redmond, Wash.
Boeing aerospace challenge: Pullman Christian School, Pullman, Wash.
McKinstry built environment challenge: Skyview High School, Vancouver, Wash.
Community impact awards: La Center High School, La Center, Wash., and Tri-Tech Skills Center, Kennewick, Wash.
