Returfing Martin Stadium

The greening of Martin Stadium is currently underway as eight crews from Field Turf Builders, a contractor out of Sherwood, Ore., install the new Field Turf on the stadium floor.

The process, which began several weeks ago, includes tearing up the old turf, laying down the new turf, installing the field markings, then topping off the turf with a layers of sand and rubber. Currently, the synthetic grass blades are about 2.5 inches tall. After the sand and rubber topping are added and groomed in, the grass length will be about 1/2 inch high.

The previous Field Turf surface was approximately six years old and showing signs of wear. The field is used for football, intermurals, band, and other activities. The new surface, which has no seams, will cost about $288,000, according to an Athletic Department representative.

The installation is expected to be complete between June 9-16.
