WSU students win national design, construction competition

PULLMAN, Wash. – As Dina Radjabalipour fought a losing battle with cancer last year, the Washington State University architecture graduate student wanted to design a better treatment center.

• WSU Spokane’s graduate program in interior design ranked ninth in the nation in a recent list released by DesignIntelligence, a bimonthly journal for architecture and design professionals. Rankings are based on surveys of professional design firms.

 

“The ranking suggests our graduate students are doing extremely well in entry level positions,” said John Turpin, associate professor and department chair. “We have had the program for seven years and enough students have gone through to where people are starting to take notice,” he said.

Career collaboration

WSU Career Services aims to provide practical experience to students to help prepare them for life outside of college, and it is using the creation of the new multimedia conference room as an opportunity to do just that. Daylighting lab to promote energy-effective design

Daylight can make people happier, healthier and more productive. The challenge of bringing it into the workplace will be the focus of a Daylighting Lab and Integrated Design Center being established at the Interdisciplinary Design Institute of Washington State University Spokane with a grant from BetterBricks.BetterBricks is a project of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, a broad consortium of utilities that work to improve the efficiency of electricity use in the region. Interior Design program names new director(s)

In a move that reflects growth at Washington State University Spokane’s Interdisciplinary Design Institute, the new director of WSU’s interior design program will also serve as assistant director of the Institute.
