Aug. 5: Open house celebrates small business success

WSBDC-LOGOEVERETT, Wash. – The Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Everett will host an open house 3-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County to celebrate the successes of more than 20 Snohomish County business owners and highlight the diverse services available to help small businesses succeed.

The event will highlight the kinds of challenges small business owners face and the various strategies they employ to overcome those challenges and succeed, said Jennifer Shelton, SBDC Everett director.

“I am continually inspired and impressed by the dedication, resourcefulness and perseverance of my clients,” she said. “The recession was devastating to our communities in so many ways, but what I am seeing now is a resurgence of growth.

“That includes women-owned businesses, veteran-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, older workers becoming first-time business owners and experienced business owners who are pivoting to take advantage of new opportunities, including international trade,” she said.

Businesses that will be showcased at the event include: North Sound Productions, Reliance Label Solutions, Treiva Spa, Lara Grauer Photography, No-Mess Pet Dish and Daedalus Denture Concepts.

More than ever, Shelton said, small business owners need to take care of day-to-day demands but also keep abreast of changes in a fast-moving business environment.

“No one can do it alone,” she said, which is why she urges business owners to take advantage of the no-cost and low-cost business resources available in Snohomish County.

The Economic Alliance of Snohomish County is located at 808 134th St. in Everett. The alliance is a sponsor, as are Washington State University, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Edmonds Community College, GroWashington, the cities of Arlington, Edmonds, Everett, Marysville and Lake Stevens and the Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce.

The Washington SBDC (http://wsbdc.org/) provides confidential, no-cost advising to small business owners who want to start, grow or transition a business. The Washington SBDC is hosted by WSU and receives funding from the U.S. Small Business Administration. State and local match funding is provided a diverse partnership of institutions of higher education and economic development agencies in Washington state.
