Washington State Magazine is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a reception recognizing the many Washington State University alumni, faculty, and staff who have made the publication possible during its first quarter of a century.
The free, public event will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 in the Terrell Library Atrium on the Pullman campus. Attendees will have an opportunity to visit with founding editor Tim Steury, recently retired editor Larry Clark, and current magazine staff. Refreshments will be served.
WSU’s research and alumni magazine launched in late 2001, replacing Hilltopics, the longtime alumni tabloid, and Universe, WSU’s research magazine. Since its inception, the magazine has provided a lasting bridge between the university and former students around the world.
“Washington State Magazine does more than just tell stories of research, Cougs, history, and campus life. For many in the Washington State University orbit, it’s the sole thread that connects them to a life-altering time in their lives,” said outgoing editor Larry Clark (’94 Comm., Asian Stu.), who worked at Washington State Magazine for 18 years before retiring in fall 2026.
Founding editors were Tim Steury and the late Patrick “Pat” James Caraher (’66 Comm.), also the founding editor of Hilltopics. Current full-time staff is made up of associate editor Adriana Janovich, art director John Paxson, and science writer Becky Kramer.
“The magazine’s stories and art offer pride in the university’s continuing accomplishments and successes of alums,” Clark said. “I feel it has tapped into the perplexing topics that affect Washington and everyone, showing how WSU plays its part in understanding and solving problems.”
The anniversary celebration is supported by a generous donation from Kittie (’87 Finance) and Bob Tucker (’87, ’89 MS Mat. Sci. & Eng.).
