WSU basketball is postseason bound

WSU women's basketball celebrating win
WSU Women's Basketball vs Arizona on the campus of Washington State University, Sunday, January, 10, 2021.

The Washington State University men’s and women’s basketball teams are heading to the postseason, and Coug fans can start enjoying the madness tonight.

The No. 4 seeded WSU men’s team tips off against the Santa Clara Bruins at 8 p.m. in Pullman’s Beasley Coliseum for their first game of the NIT tournament. The game will also air live on ESPN U.

On the other side of the country, the No. 8 seeded WSU women’s basketball team will be putting on its dancing shoes for the second-straight season when they take on Kansas State in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tip‑off is at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, March 19. The game will also be aired on ESPN 2.

This is just the sixth time in program history the Cougar men head to the NIT and the first time since 2011. All time at the NIT, the Cougars are 7‑5 including going 3‑1 in 2011 as WSU, led by Klay Thompson, played its way to the semifinals.

The WSU women’s team earned its second-straight at‑large bid into March Madness after going 19‑10 overall and finishing tied for second in the Pac‑12 with an 11‑6 conference mark. The 19 wins are the most collected by the Cougars in a single season in the NCAA era in program history, while the 11 Pac‑12 victories are a program record for most conference wins in a season.
