How is the university evolving to better serve the future needs of the state of Washington? Can WSU expand its commitment to serving the public good in the ways suggested by Stephen Gavazzi and E. Gordon Gee in their recent book, Land‑Grant Universities for the Future?

Learn the answers to those questions and gain other insights when President Kirk Schulz presents the 2019 State of the University address at 3:10 p.m. tomorrow in the Bryan Hall Theatre. The address also will be livestreamed.

Following his opening remarks, Schulz will participate in a dialogue with WSU Vancouver and Carson College faculty member Donna Paul. They will examine some of the current systemwide initiatives underway that are positioning the university for the future, including the strategic plan, modernization and campus culture.

A brief question-and-answer period will follow the address.

Graduating senior Garrett Snedeker will perform three selections on the piano when the theatre doors open at 2:45 p.m., accompanied by a slideshow featuring systemwide photo highlights from 2018. The Crimson Flute Trio, composed of students Elaine Martir, Marissa Watanabe and Sofiya Chayka, will perform during the reception, which will include appetizers and refreshments.

A limited number of complimentary copies of Gavazzi and Gee’s book will be available during the reception. Gavazzi will visit WSU May 7 and 8 to lead a systemwide symposium focused on the vital role of land‑grants in American society.
