State Route 26 detours extended through December

The projected schedule for the State Route 26 bridge repair project east of Othello, that’s been taking motorists on a 32‑mile detour, is being extended.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), “protecting the railroad tracks under the bridge during demolition work took longer than anticipated, delaying the concrete pour.”

“Safety for travelers and workers is WSDOT’s first priority and requires the additional time for this project,” said project engineer Dan Lewis. “At the same time, the simple detour has proven capable of safely accommodating high traffic volumes without significant delays.”

The project delay means that travelers to and from Pullman for the Arizona football game, Thanksgiving break and Apple Cup, will need to find alternative ways to the Palouse.

More information about the project, detours, and updates is available via a news release on the WSDOT website.
