Hispanic Food Network program features WSU

 
 
PULLMAN – A Hispanic Food Network program featuring the science of WSU wheat breeder Kim Kidwell, her partnership with Fred Fleming of Shepherd’s Grain Flour and his partnership with a Spokane tortilla factory and WSU dining services will air multiple times on television stations throughout eastern Washington in December and January.
 
The “Circle of the Tortilla” episode of En La Cocina, or In the Kitchen, tells the story of how the Tara Red wheat variety bred by Kidwell and grown by Fleming in Reardon makes its way to DeLeon’s tortilla factory in Spokane. The final destination for “Sergio’s” tortillas? Carlita’s Café in the WSU CUB.
 
The Hispanic Food Network is a new enterprise with headquarters in Spokane and features television reporter Mike Gonzalez.
 
“Circle of the Tortilla” will air on:
  • KXLY-TV in Spokane at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6; 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12; and 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20
  • KXMN-TV in Spokane at noon, Saturday, Dec. 5; 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19; and 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3
  • KAPP/KVEW-ABC in Tri-Cities/Yakima at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5; 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12; 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19; and 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 26
  • KAPP/KVEW-D (MNTV) in Tri-Cities/Yakima at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5; 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20; and 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2.
