WSU hosts national poster session

PULLMAN — WSU is hosting five National Science Foundation sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates Site programs in the summer of 2008. The final poster session where the summer researchers present their work will
be in the CUE Atrium on Tuesday, August 5 from 2 – 4 pm and on Wednesday, August 6 from 9 – 11 am.

Over 50 students will be presenting their exciting work from this summer’s REU programs.  These students are from all around the US, with students from as far as Connecticut and as close as Idaho and WSU participating under the supervision of faculty in the College of Engineering and Architecture and the College of Sciences.  The majority of the students are visiting WSU from another institution, and have been working with faculty at WSU for the last 9 weeks this summer.

Students in the program work in a variety of areas including: Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The REU program goal is to provide undergraduate students in science, engineering, and related fields an opportunity to participate in ongoing active research programs. Working closely with faculty and graduate students, the participants have gained hands on experience with advanced characterization, modeling, and testing techniques in demand in the field today.  Students from all levels of their undergraduate work participate in this program, and majors from many disciplines are represented.
Students are supported through the National Science Foundation’s REU programs and the Auvil Scholars Program in the Office of Undergraduate Education at WSU.
