April Fool’s Day concert brings music

PULLMAN – The WSU Madrigal Singers will present a concert of music, skits and laughs on April Fool’s Day, Tuesday, April 1. The free family-friendly event will be held at 8 p.m. in Bryan Hall in the WSU Pullman campus.

Highlights of the performance will include French dance music, Italian dance songs, English ballads, contemporary music by composers Eric Whitacre, Dominick Argento, and WSU student composer Austin Schlichting, as well as humorous music by P.D.Q. Bach and three popular songs by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The Madrigal Singers will also present their version of the story of Robin Hood with audience participation.

The WSU Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Lori Wiest, includes 20 singers from across the WSU campus and from towns in Washington, Idaho and Arkansas.

Performing in costumes reminiscent of the Renaissance period, these students sing and act their way into the hearts of their audiences. A long-standing campus event for sixteen years, the Annual WSU Madrigal Dinner has developed into a seasonal tradition for many, ushering in the holidays in December.

The Madrigal Singers also perform at many other campus events, are involved in community outreach, and perform on recruitment tours throughout the state and region. They have performed in St. Petersburg, Russia and throughout Italy including St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome in addition to U.S. performances at the Arizona Renaissance Fair and Disneyland.
