UREC lends a hand, offers free massages

More than half of Americans claim they will likely seek out help to deal with stress in their lives, according to a poll released in January by the Washington Post.  For the over-worked, under-rested individuals of WSU that fall under that statistic, the Student Recreation Center may have just the right touch to help you relax.
From October 23-25 UREC will be offering free chair massages to all members on a first come, first serve basis as a part of National Massage Therapy Awareness Week.
“The college lifestyle can be very taxing on the body,” said
Delaney Farmer, a licensed UREC therapist and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, which sponsors awareness week.   “Massage therapy helps you move better, feel better and enjoy your body more.”
Farmer, a WSU senior and massage practitioner for more than 10 years, organized WSU’s three-day awareness event in an attempt to get the word out to students about the benefits of massage therapy.

Along with the free chair massages, a special partner massage session will be offered Wednesday night at a cost of $10 per
couple.  The class will teach partners “techniques to make it enjoyable from both ends,” Farmer said, including ways to reduce fatigue while giving a massage.  Registration forms can be picked up at the UREC main office.

UREC also offers a variety of other massage services available every day of the week, including: Swedish, therapeutic, pregnancy, and on-site massages.  Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.  Massage sessions for SRC members are $27 for 30 minutes and $42 for 50 minutes.  Nonmembers pay an additional $2 per session. All payment methods are accepted, including charging student accounts.
