Faculty Artist Series to play The Soldier’s Tale

PULLMAN – WSU’s School of Music Faculty Artist Series will include a special presentation of Stravinsky’s “L’Historie du Soldat” or “The Soldier’s Tale,” at 3 p.m. Oct. 28 in Bryan Hall Theatre.

The story is a staged fable originally composed for a traveling group of musicians and actors in Switzerland in 1918. The drama tells the story of the unlucky soldier who makes a Faustian bargain with the devil.

The performance will feature John Weiss as narrator, Christopher Akers as the soldier and Timothy Robblee as the devil.

The ensemble will include Meredith Arksey on violin, Shannon Scott on clarinet, Ryan Hare on bassoon, David Turnbull on trumpet, Alan Gemberling on trombone, David Snider on contrabass, David Jarvis on percussion and it will be conducted by Nicholas Wallin.

Tickets are free for WSU students with ID, $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors and non-WSU students.

All proceeds from the Faculty Artists Series directly fund student music scholarships.
