Businesses offer information at Vancouver job fair

VANCOUVER- Local students and job seekers can gather at the largest job fair in Southwest Washington from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2 at the Vancouver Hilton.

The 20th Annual Pathways to Your Future career information and job fair will feature dozens of professional technical employers and workshops. The event is free and open to the public.

More than 80 employers will have representatives on hand. Last year, the event attracted more than 3,000 thousand job seekers. Clark College, Washington State University Vancouver and The Columbian newspaper are co-sponsoring the event.

In addition to exhibits, the following workshops will be held in the Alder Room adjacent to the lobby:

“Career Transition Strategies,” addressing strategies to handle career change challenges, and the impact of political and cultural shifts – 12 p.m.

“Stand Out – Distinguish Yourself From the Competition,” setting the tone in the first contact, projecting confidence and authority, leaving a lasting impression that stands out – 1:15 p.m.

“Using Technology in Your Job Search,” learning to maximize use of the Internet, exploring career options and searching for jobs, writing resumes and cover letters; preparing for the interview – 2:30 p.m.

Résumé critique service will be available from 12 to 3 p.m. in the Discovery C room. Sign up to have a résumé reviewed. Mock interviewing will be offered from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. the in Discovery E room. Sign up to practice interviewing skills and a personal “60 second commercial,” with instant feedback from workshop staff. Maps, brochures and general information will be available at the information table, outside the Heritage Ballroom.

Exhibit explores queer experience on the Palouse
