Sprott named Associate Dean for WSU College of Business

PULLMAN– David Sprott, the Boeing/Scott and Linda Carson Chair in Marketing, has been appointed Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the Washington State University College of Business.

Sprott takes over at a unique time in the College’s history, with the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program celebrating its 50th year and the doctoral program entering its 20th year of granting post-graduate degrees.

The WSU MBA program was redesigned two years ago, and continues to see solid growth in enrollments. The first 20 students in the new program will complete their degrees this May.

There are currently three options for MBA studies, including: a two-year full-time program, a one-year accelerated program, and a joint Juris Doctor/MBA degree program, in partnership with the University of Idaho. Sprott will work to continue growing and enhancing the MBA experience at WSU, building on the nationally-prominent faculty, a caring staff, and small cohort groups that encourage frequent and personal interaction among faculty and students.

Sprott teaches marketing in the 2-year MBA program and mentors numerous doctoral students across WSU. Recently, he helped to revise the doctoral degree curriculum in the College of Business, which offers a Ph.D. in Business with concentrations in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Management & Operations, and Marketing.

“I am excited that Dr. Sprott has agreed to lead the college’s graduate programs,” said Dean Eric Spangenberg. “His enthusiasm for graduate-level education will be a tremendous benefit to the college, and will be a great asset to our graduate students.”

“I am passionate about graduate education and I am excited about the future of our college in this regard,” Sprott said. “The WSU College of Business is poised to increase the size and stature of its graduate programs and I am honored to be the person charged with this task.”

Sprott’s ongoing research investigates consumer behavior and the effects of social influence, branding, and consumer information processing in retail settings, and has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Consumer Psychology and Journal of Retailing. Sprott is currently working on a USDA National Research Initiative grant with colleagues that explores consumer effects of presenting nutrition information on grocery store shelf labels.

Sprott came to WSU in 1995 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. He earned a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of South Carolina and both bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Kent State University.

Born and raised in northeast Ohio, Sprott resides in Pullman with his wife and three daughters.
