PULLMAN–A new Astrobiology Seminar Series will bring top researchers to the WSU Pullman campus to focus on aspects of life in the universe.
“Astrobiology touches on many universal questions, such as ‘What is being alive?’ ‘What are the possibilities for life on other planets?’ ‘What is the ultimate fate of life?’” said Guy Worthey, associate professor of physics and astronomy.
The 12-lecture series will begin Sept. 8, with “Life in the Solar System and Beyond” by WSU astrobiologist and associate professor of geology Dirk Schulze-Makuch. Lectures will be
2:10 p.m. Fridays in Smith CUE 203.
Other topics will include life on early earth, the Big Bang and organisms that live in extreme environments.
Among outside speakers will be Jonathan Lunine, an interdisciplinary mission scientist on the Cassini Huygens mission to Saturn, on Jan. 26.
