PULLMAN, Wash. — Tickets will go on sale today (Feb. 14) for a Washington State University benefit production of Eve Ensler’s renowned play “The Vagina Monologues.”
“The Vagina Monologues” is a play that celebrates women’s sexuality and strength by exposing the violations that women endure throughout the world. It is based on Ensler’s personal experience with violence and her interviews with more than 200 women.
The performances are set for 8 p.m. Feb. 25-26 and 2 p.m. Feb. 27, each in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre. Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for non-students and can be purchased at the west entrance of the Compton Union Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the WSU Women’s Resource Center in Wilson Hall, Room 8, during regular business hours and at Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre before each performance.
The event will be presented on behalf of the V-Day 2005 College Campaign, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing antiviolence organizations. It also generates broader attention for the fight to stop worldwide violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.
Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of “The Vagina Monologues” to raise awareness and funds for antiviolence groups within their own communities. V-Day WSU is a local effort within the worldwide context of V-Day’s 2005 College Campaign. This is the third consecutive year the play will be performed at WSU.
The benefit production is sponsored by Health and Wellness Services, the Associated Students of WSU and the Office of Campus Involvement.
