Union secturity requested

Contract negotiation update:  At about 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, the WFSE delivered a full counter proposal to WSU administrators regarding the final four articles in the proposed contract. That proposal is now being considered by the university. It includes a request for “union security” and a full insertion of the layoff procedures as found in the WSU’s Business Procedures and Practices Manual.

In essence, a union security provision requires all classified employees covered by the bargaining agreement to pay union dues — 1.37 percent of gross base pay up to $53.29 per month —about $639 per year, per employee.

WSU is the only university in the state that has not completed contract negotiations. The deadline for submission to the Governor’s Office is Oct. 1.

Please check back later in the morning for more details.
