Gala jazz concert slated for June 19

Washington State University will host a Gala Summer Jazz Concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, in Kimbrough Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature vocalist Jennifer Scovell, a faculty member at the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts, on an array of famous jazz standards like “Day by Day,” “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To,” “All or Nothing at All,” as well as Brazilian ballads like “Estate” and “Just to Say Goodbye” with cellist Eugene Zenzen.

Charles Argersinger, also a school faculty member, organized the concert and will perform as pianist. Other feature musicians include Dick Dozier, Dave Jarvis, Eric Engerbretson and Gary Gemberling.

“This performance is a farewell to saxophonist Geoff Bradfield who is moving back to Chicago,” Argersinger said. “His brilliant and artistic playing will be greatly missed, and this is one of the last-chance opportunities to hear him play.”

The event is part of the School of Music and Theatre Arts and Campus Involvement series of summer enrichment activities. For more information, contact Argersinger at (509) 335-7122.
