PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University students and faculty will be the featured performers in Jazz SHOWCASE at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum on March 28.
The 7:30 p.m. concert, part of the university’s World Class. Face to Face. SHOWCASE weekend, is free and open to the public.
It features a variety of jazz pieces including a Crimson Revue performance of “All That Jazz” and a VoJazz ensemble that features a mix of blues, modern and current jazz pieces. Both groups are under the direction of Jennifer Scovell, an instructor for the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts.
The WSU Jazz Big Band, winners at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, will also perform. The big band’s performance will include an original composition, “Hangin’ High on the Flat Five,” by band director Greg Yasinitsky.
Jazz SHOWCASE’s program should appeal to audiences of all ages, Yasinitsky said. “It’s really great music – fun music – that everyone likes.”
