Pullman, Wash. — Three Washington State University students and University Recreation employees have been recognized by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) for their leadership and academic achievements while working for a recreational sports department. Tara Wyman, Caryn Young and Karee Boone were among 35 students honored recently with the 2003 William N. Wasson Award.
To qualify for this award, nominees must be full-time students with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduates, and be a participant, volunteer, or employee of a recreational sports department. Nominees must also demonstrate scholarship or professional development through research, honors, self-improvement, continuing education, certifications, presentations or participation in professional organizations.
Wyman is an undergraduate student who has been employed with University Recreation since January 2000 and currently serves as a facility manager at the Student Recreation Center. She also assists the Fitness & Educational Development Program as a yoga instructor and conducts presentations on nutrition topics. She has been on the President’s Honor Roll for eight semesters with a GPA of 3.89.
Young is also a facility manager at the Student Recreation Center and has been employed with University Recreation since January 2001. Young is also certified to teach fitness and yoga classes for the Fitness and Educational Development Program. Young has been on the President’s Honor Roll for five semesters with a GPA of 3.58.
Boone is a Pullman native and will complete her Masters in Education in May. She has been employed with University Recreation since May 2001 and currently serves as a graduate assistant in Facilities, Operations and Memberships. Boone has been on the President’s Honor Roll for three semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.91.
All three students will be recognized in April at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports annual conference in Cleveland.
