VANCOUVER, Wash.– Washington State University Vancouver has planned a variety of activities throughout February in honor of Black History Month. All activities are free and open to the public.
Carl Mack, first vice-president of the NAACP Seattle chapter, will speak on campus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in the Student Services Building, Room 110. Mack’s lecture will center on aspects of African American history that are often overlooked, such as the role of African Americans in the American Revolution.
On Feb. 24, Cuban master drummers from Havana will perform at 6 p.m. in the Multimedia Classroom Building, Room 6. The concert includes Afro-Cuban music and dance performances. Tours of the new multimedia building also will be conducted to showcase its innovative and technological features.
A performance by Flooney’s Theater Company is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 26 in the Student Services Building, Room 129. The performance will focus on noted author Langston Hughes and will incorporate a biographical sketch, poetry readings and dramatic performances of Hughes’ work.
