AMID showcases Hawaiian quilts on Feb. 20

Linda Arthur, chair of the Apparel, Merchandising and Interior Design department, will present a slide show on Hawaiian quilts at the noontime Art a la Carte in CUB Cascade 123 on Feb. 20.

“Hawaiian quilts are riding the crest of a wave of popularity on the mainland and around the world.” So says John Kitchen’s article in the May/June 2002 issue of “Hawaii Magazine.”

But island designers are not content to merely stitch together a symmetrical or even random pattern of cloth images. Many of these quilts have a richness of color and composition detail that rival fine paintings and multimedia collages.
