Panelists to discuss diabetes program

Diabetes and the “Extension Diabetes Education Program” will be the focus of the next Extension Engaged program, slated for 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14. Guest panelists will be Sue Butkus, extension nutrition specialist; Jill Armstrong Shultz, professor and scientist with Food Science and Human Nutrition; and Cindy Corbett, assistant professor with the College of Nursing. Topics will include who gets diabetes, common complications and how to prevent some complications.

They also will discuss some common strategies for treatment, such as food, exercise, medicine and why it’s so hard to make lifestyle changes related to diabetes. They will also give an update on the new Extension Diabetes education program “On the Road.”

The program will originate in Room T-101 in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Building. Interested faculty and staff are invited to attend. The program will be broadcast via satellite and can be viewed on satellite on G-3, ch. 02 3740 MHz, vertical polarity. The test pattern will begin at 9 a.m.
