PULLMAN, Wash. — The 14th Annual Winefest sponsored by the Sigma Iota student hospitality club at Washington State University is set for Nov. 7 at Ridge Pointe Community Clubhouse, off Bishop Blvd. at 1402 SE Fancy Free Dr., Pullman. For the first time, a portion of winefest profits will be used to help fund a hospitality student scholarship.
Two sessions, from 5-7 p.m. and 8-10 p.m., are designed to accommodate as many as 225 people, says event organizer Brian Gaffney, a junior in the Hotel and Restaurant Administration program in the College of Business and Economics.
A buffet of Italian cuisine will be prepared locally by the Old Spaghetti Factory of Spokane, and is included in the entry price. Tickets are $20 each, and are available by phoning 509/335-0130 (days) or 509/334-0311 (evenings). A shuttle service from the CUB turnaround on the WSU campus and from the Professional Mall on Bishop Blvd. will run every 15 minutes.
Representatives from nearly two dozen Washington wineries will be at the winefest to offer ounce samplings from an array of fine whites, reds and champagnes. Hedges Cellars, from Issaquah, will debut its second release of Three Vineyards Red. Having placed in the top 100 wines in the “Wine Spectator” industry magazine last year, the 1994 vintage is a Ã’rich, complex, assertiveÓ blending of 83 percent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 17 percent Merlot, says Hedges sales and marketing director Lorne Jacobson.
Profits from this yearÃs winefest will for the first time support a scholarship for an HRA major, says Gaffney. Remaining profits will be used for club activities. Sigma Iota is one of five clubs for students in the 65-year-old HRA program.
