ZOOM teleconferencing rollout and training

Zoom videoconferencing is coming to all of WSU on July 9.

Information Technology Services, in partnership with the president’s office, is in final preparations for a university-wide site license program offering a new teleconferencing tool to WSU offices across the state.

This cloud software as a service (SaaS) provides users an additional option for communicating with business peers and collaborators that eliminates geographic and time barriers. Meeting and class attendees using the video or telephone conferencing are able to record meetings and share later with additional team members, or students in a class setting.

Cloud resources eliminate the need for maintaining on premises equipment. Zoom fits ITS’ long term vision for moving much of WSU’s technology infrastructure into the cloud, reducing costs and employee effort while providing the reliability that redundant cloud resources offer. Through the multiple integrations and features possible, the project team anticipates significant cost savings over the coming years.

In addition to significant cost savings, the new SaaS provides a single tool to support both academic and business needs through integration with WSU’s current learning management system, new cloud authentication system, and will ultimately integrate well with WSU’s email and calendaring resources.

Official access will be offered upon completion of several key integration processes and individual request forms are expected to be available via the ITS service catalog in early July.

As part of this licensing implementation, Zoom is offering on-site training for WSU end users as well as personalized training for area technology support staff.

End user training will take place on June 25 at these campus locations across the state:

Pullman Spark G45
Everett Classroom 354
Vancouver ECS 125
Tri-Cities TFLO 210
Spokane SAC 345 morning session, SNRS 203 afternoon session

Schedule
Session 1: 9-10:30 a.m.
Session 2: 1-2:30 p.m.
(Training sessions cover the same topics, so end users only need to attend one session.)
