WSU Zoom update introduces new presence status sync features

A recent update to Zoom introduces improved integration capabilities with Microsoft Office 365, offering WSU faculty, staff, and students a new presence status synchronization feature with Microsoft Teams.

With this update, Information Technology Services (ITS) allows WSU users who have connected their Zoom accounts to Office 365 to update the Exchange Web Services (EWS) integration to the recommended Microsoft Graph API.

The Microsoft Graph API-based Zoom and Office 365 integration enables presence status synchronization, a feature that automatically updates a user’s availability across Zoom and Teams. Benefiting those who use both platforms for communication and collaboration, presence status synchronization ensures greater availability visibility for colleagues and peers.

To update the integration, WSU users can manually reauthenticate into Zoom and enable presence permissions via the WSU Zoom web portal. This update is optional and the current EWS-based integration will remain functional.

Ensuring faculty, staff, and students can opt into this improved integration follows the direction of executive leadership within ITS, who identified the transition to the Microsoft Graph API as an important step toward modernizing the technology supporting Zoom and Office 365 integration services.
