In addition to the tuition assistance announced earlier this month, a team of faculty and staff from across the university has been formed to manage WSU’s support for the communities and people affected by the Oso mudslide. Curt Moulton, Snohomish County Extension Director, heads this team; he will lead WSU’s efforts in the area impacted by the slide. Mike Gaffney, director of the WSU Division of Governmental Studies and Services and the Office of Emergency Management, will be the Pullman campus liaison to the team and will provide a linkage for WSU engagement. WSU has significant resources and expertise to assist with long-term community development. The team will be working with community leaders and other local leaders to assess when and how WSU can best provide appropriate assistance. As the community leaders inform the team of opportunities for WSU to provide assistance, that information will be shared with the WSU system. If you are interested in participating in possible future activities, or would like more information on WSU’s commitment, please contact Mike Gaffney at (509) 335-7471 or mjgaffney@wsu.edu
