Through the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health, WSU professors Drs. Thumbi Mwangi and Felix Lankester are addressing the critical transboundary issue in eliminating infectious diseases through their efforts at the borders of Kenya and Tanzania.
Specific to rabies, achieving the high vaccination coverage in one country required for elimination will be unsuccessful if unvaccinated dogs enter from adjacent villages in the neighboring country.
This coordination, led by Drs. Mwangi and Lankester, is not only critical for rabies elimination but also will establish policies that can be broadly applied to transboundary diseases.
