WSU Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

The Office of Multicultural Student Services celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, commemorated each year September 15 to October 15, with a series of presentations, movie screenings, student organization events, and culminating in a Hispanic Heritage Month Quiz Bowl. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Kicking off the month-long celebration, themed “Saber es Poder: The Power of Knowledge” will be a presentation on the History of Chicanos at WSU by PhD student Erim Gomez on Tuesday, September 15, at noon in the Chicana/o Latina/o Student Center, located on the fourth floor of the Compton Union Building (CUB 402).

In addition, the office will present other events to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month:

– The movie screening of Even the Rain, facilitated by Jorge Moraga on Monday, September 21, at 6 p.m. in CUE 203.

– Voces de Inspiracion/Voices of Inspiration Panel, moderated by Marcela Pattinson, featuring Jaime Barajas, WSU CAMP Director, Leticia Rodriguez, owner of Nuevo Vallarta in Pullman, WA, and Dr. Brenda Barrio, Assistant Professor of Special Education Technology at WSU.

– The movie screening of Bless Me Ultima, facilitated by Dr. Brian McNeill on Monday, September 28, at 6 p.m. in CUE 203.

– Nut Butter Days Game Night featuring Loteria, hosted by GIESORC on Wednesday, September 30, at 5 p.m. in CUB 401.

– The movie screening of McFarland, USA, facilitated by CAMARADAS on Monday, October 5, at 6 p.m. in CUE 203.

– A poetry slam, hosted by student organization QPOCA on Wednesday, October 7, at 6 p.m. at Zoe’s Coffeehouse.

– The movie screening of Spare Parts, facilitated by the Team Mentoring Program on Monday, October 12, at 6 p.m. in CUE 203.

– The Center for Mestizo and Indigenous Research and Engagement Open House, on Tuesday, October 13, beginning at 3 p.m. in Cleveland 121.

– Hispanic Heritage Quiz Bowl, hosted by Dr. Linda Heidenreich and co-sponsored by CCGRS and student organization The Crimson Group, on Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium.
