Lipi Turner-Rahman (History, Libraries) will present a Common Reading talk, “Bringing to the Light: Digitizing Stories of Yakima Migrant Laborers in the Time of Covid” on Tuesday, March 8, at 5 p.m. via Zoom. The talk will discuss efforts by WSU Libraries to digitize, identify, and tell the stories of the Yakima Valley migrant labor community, captured by documentary photographer Irwin Nash in the late 1960s and 1970s. The digitization of this collection, which contains over 9,000 images, has led to reclaiming not only the images by also the stories and family histories of Washington’s migrant labor community.
