Thirty-Fourth Annual T.G. Ostrom Lecture: March 25 — Dr. Marty Golubitsky, OSU

All are cordially invited to attend the 34th T.G. Ostrom Lecture featuring  Dr. Marty Golubitsky (Mathematical Biosciences Institute; Department of Mathematics, Ohio State University).  Dr. Golubitsky will present his talk, “Patterns Patterns Everywhere” on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in Webster 16.

Abstract: Regular patterns appear all around us: from vast geological formations to ripples in a vibrating coffee cup, from gaits of horses to the lapping tongues of flames. The mathematical notion of symmetry is a key to understanding how and why these patterns form. This lecture will show some of these fascinating patterns and discuss how mathematical symmetry enters the picture.

Reception: A reception with refreshments will immediately follow in the Hacker Lounge (Neill Hall 216).
