The Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering Seminar Series

The Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering department at Washington State University is pleased to invite you to our upcoming seminar Monday, Sept. 28, in Todd 311.

Zdenek Dohnálek is a Senior Chief Scientist in the Fundamental and Computational Sciences Directorate and the Deputy Director of the Institute for Integrated catalysis at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).  He received his M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering (Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague, Czech Republic) and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (University of Pittsburgh, USA, 1997). Dr. Dohnálek joined PNNL after a two year postdoctoral fellowship in the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at PNNL.  He has extensive experience in the areas of surface science, catalysis and thin film growth. His research deals with fundamental experimental studies of model systems that are necessary to understand complex processes that take place in heterogeneous catalysis and the environment.  Dr. Dohnálek’s work focuses on adsorption/desorption dynamics and kinetics, binding, diffusion, and reactivity of small adsorbates on model, well-characterized metal and metal oxide surfaces. His studies employ both scanning probe and molecular beam scattering techniques to attain a detailed mechanistic understanding of the investigated processes.  He has taken part in developing a number of novel deposition methods to prepare nanoclusters and nanoporous films of metals and oxides with tailored chemical properties.
