Symposium on Place

Friday October 21, 6 – 9 p.m.
Fine Arts Auditorium

Please join us for an evening of interdisciplinary presentations and discussions on the theme of “Place”. The places in which we live, work, commute and spend our leisure time, effect us in myriad ways, both tangible and intangible. They can shape our reactions and emotions, our sense of health and safety, our ability to participate in society, and the people we can become. Collectively, this event will provide deeper insight into our understanding of place and its impact on our lives.

The event is organized by Kevin Haas from the Department of Fine Arts and Ayad Rahmani from the School of Design + Construction and will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium on October 21st, between 6-9PM. It will start with an introduction by Kevin Haas followed by 10 diverse presentations from faculty and students across campus. Topics will focus on poetics, data, socio-political issues, travel and time, and the local. Presenters include: Linda Russo, Judy Theodorson, Andrew Cassey, Mona Ghandi, Michael Myers, Raihan Sharif and John Streamas, Kim Castelin and Colleen Taugher, Ayad Rahmani, Kayla Wakulich, and Kristin Becker, with introductions by Alex Wolf, Jared Boorn, Vlanka Catalan, and Marianeth Becerrill and Andre Fortes.

The presentations will follow a “PechaKucha” format in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each, making all the presentations exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Light refreshments will be served. Please direct questions to either Kevin Haas (khaas@wsu.edu) or Ayad Rahmani (arahmani@sdc.wsu.edu).
