Pumpkins will be propelled from portals to produce pulverized pulp for a dazzling presentation of scientific prowess! This year’s annual Pumpkin Drop and “The Marvels of Science” will take place Saturday, November 7, at 10 :30 a.m. in the mall area between ISP and Webster Physical Sciences. The event endeavors to recreate the experiment performed by Galileo that established the Law of Falling Bodies (the one that proved that all bodies fall at the same rate). Although, we admit this is more fun and pumpkins than actual science.
In addition, at 9 a.m. science demonstrations, kid’s events, and experiments from Geology, Physics, Astronomy, the Optical Society of America, and Environmental Science will begin. T-shirts, rocks, fossils, science toys, and give-aways will be part of the extravaganza! At 10:10 a.m., there will be a demonstration on volcanoes.
All are welcome to to pick up pumpkin pieces for soups or pies, goats, or pigs during clean-up! (Bring your own containers, please.)
So, grab the kids, Dad, and friends and come celebrate science for this splat-tacular spectacle!
